The Terriers appoint a man who is behind two Promotions with Lincoln City as manager.

Danny Cowley began his managerial career at Concord Rangers, who he took to three promotions before joining Braintree Town and guided them to the playoff final.

He then joined then-National League side Lincoln in may of 2016 and guided them to two promotions in three years in charge.

Lincoln also reached FA Cup quarter-finals to boot, with wins over Ipswich, Brighton, and Burnley along the way in the 2016-17 season where they lost to eventual winners Arsenal.

In 2017-18 Lincoln won the EFL Trophy with a 1-0 victory in final against a very strong Shrewsbury Town while still being a League Two team.

Currently, The Imps sit at 5th position in League One after 7 games winning 4 and losing 3.

Danny Cowley was linked with a number of clubs including West Brom, Middlesbrough, and Hibernian in recent months.

If sources are to be believed Cowley was earning around £140,000 yearly at Lincoln and will be paid in excess of £1m a year as the new Terriers boss.

Danny Cowley has a record of 98 wins, 48 draws from 184 games as manager of Lincoln City whom he guided from National League two League One in a space of just three years.

His brother Nicky Cowley has joined him as the Assistant manager who has also served imps for the past three and a half years.

The past three and a half years have been so unbelievably special. It has simply been a fairy tale for Nicky and I. The way you as a community have taken us in and looked after us and our families has been just incredible. For that, we will be forever grateful. 
The moments we have shared together… Winning the National League in our first season, reaching the quarter finals of the FA Cup as a Non-League team, going to Wembley for the first time in the club’s history and winning the Checkatrade Trophy, reaching the play-offs in our first season back in the football league and winning League 2 last year have all been incredibly special and created memories that will stay with all of us forever.

More than the trophies it has been the special relationships that we have created with so many people at all levels of the football club. Clive Nates you are just a special, special man. You are honest and have real integrity. Along with the board you have provided us with unconditional support from day dot. It cannot be underestimated how lucky Lincoln City is to have these people guiding the football club.
To Liam Scully, Ian McCallum and the rest of the office staff you have worked tirelessly day in, day out to drive the business side of the club and we simply would not have achieved this without you.
We have just the best football department. A staff that is so relentlessly hard working and player centred, that have helped to create a culture and environment that has consistently allowed the players to perform at their very best. They are so selfless in their work and it has been an absolute pleasure to work with them every single day.
The players have been simply outstanding. The four different groups that we have worked with have all shared similar qualities – humility, determination, resilience and a relentless work ethic. At times, Nicky and I have received the plaudits but I can tell you, the success has been down to the players. In football, it is always the players.
Lastly and certainly to this football club, most importantly, you the supporters. The success that we have achieved would not have been possible without your unconditional support. Never underestimate your role in this success. You have driven our energy and stood side by side with us when we have needed you. Some of our fondest moments would have been sharing the successes with you on the terraces.
Building the football infrastructure has been so important to us. We genuinely believe that we are leaving the club from the Academy upwards in a really strong position to achieve long term success.
So why leave, you ask…?
Nicky and I have a burning ambition to challenge ourselves at the highest possible level. We don’t know if an opportunity as good as this one will come around again and we never want to live with regret. 
It has been the greatest privileges for Nicky and I, to manage Lincoln City FC. We will forever hold this football club in our hearts and with Concord Rangers FC it will always be the first result that we look for. We will never ever forget the support we have had and know that we would not be in this fortunate position without all of you.

The statement from the Terries official website by Huddersfield Town Chairman Phil Hodgkinson read

“I am delighted to be able to welcome Danny and Nicky Cowley to Huddersfield Town today.

“From the outset, David Webb and I knew how important this next appointment is for the Club. We undertook a very detailed and thorough process to identify the right person to lead the First Team forward, first outlining the qualities we were looking for in the right candidate and then establishing which managers matched them.

“Our research, due diligence and work resulted in a shortlist of four candidates, and Danny Cowley was number one. His track record is there for all to see – he has led his previous teams to five promotions and several cup successes – and our character references revealed a man who is one of the most detailed managers around; meticulous in his preparation, and highly regarded by his peers.

“Having approached Lincoln City and gained permission to speak to the Cowleys, they initially decided they wanted to continue the superb job they had done at that club and turned down the opportunity to discuss our job. At that stage we could have easily pursued one of the other options we had identified – all of which are fine managers – but David and I felt it was important to try and persuade them to talk to us. We firmly believed that they were the best men to take us forward, and we didn’t want to give up on them.

“Our persistence paid off and when we spoke, there was an obvious chemistry. They believe in the way we operate as a Club and it affirmed that they would be a superb fit for us. As such, I’m delighted that they are joining us.”

“I appreciate that the last few weeks must have felt like a long time to our supporters as they waited for news on our search for a manager, but I believe it was much more important to invest time in getting the right person as opposed to making a quick appointment.

“I would like to thank Mark Hudson, Dean Whitehead and Leigh Bromby for taking charge of the First Team over the last few weeks. Although results have not improved, I believe that Danny and Nicky are taking charge on the back of some really good work on the training pitch.
