Carlisle United had a good season 2018-19 where they were able to finish in the 11th position. That means fans we expect them to go for playoffs and would love if they were to get automatic promotion spot.

They have released 11 players from the club which included players like Gary Liddle, a 33-year-old defensive midfield player, Anthony Gerrard, a regular starter at center back for them last season.

Richie Bennett, Striker who scored 9 goals for them last season, Tom Parkes, Second starting center back for them last season.

Other players released include right back Gary Miller, Third Center Back and 23-year-old Macauley Gillesphey, fourth choice CB Peter Grant.

Backup center midfield player Jason Kennedy, Backup center forward Arthur Gnahoua, Defensive Midfield player George Glendon, and their club captain Danny Grainger who retired from football.

That means Steven Pressley has a chance to assemble a team of his own. They had to use academy players to put out a squad at the end of last season.

Now it is very important that they add new faces to their squad if the fans expectations of fighting for promotion are to be met.

Manager

Steven Pressley is well known for his playing time with Heart of Midlothian where he made 271 appearances. He also made 32 appearances for Scottish National Team.

Apart from Hearts, he made appearances for Rangers, Coventry City, Dundee United, Falkirk and both Scottish giants Celtic, and Rangers.

After retiring as a player he managed Falkirk, Coventry City, Fleetwood Town, and Cyprus club Pafos before joining Carlisle United in January of 2019.

As in charge of Carlisle, he won 6 and drawn 5 in 18 games in charge. Which means he has 23 points from 18 games. That means Cumbrians fans will expect him to do better.

New Signings

With 11 departures in the summer Steven Pressley wasted no time in bringing in new signings. They have already signed 5 first team players.

The new signings are as follows.

Jack Iredale

Scottish born Australian Center back Jack Iredale is a 23-Year-Old footballer who has spent most of his playing career at lower divisions of Scottish Football League.

As a youngster, he represented Australia at the Under-17 level. Apart from one season on loan at Queen’s Park, he has spent all of his playing careers at his home town team Greenock Morton.

He mostly plays at Left-Back but also can play as a Center Back and Left Midfielder if needed.

Jack Bridge

Jack Bridge was a product of his home town club Southend United academy and has spent every season till 2018 at Southend.

While at Southend he has gone on loans to non-league clubs like Soham Town Rangers, and Chelmsford City.

Bridge was unable to establish himself as a starter at Southend so in January of 2017, he joined Northampton Town.

During his time with The Cobblers, he made 36 appearances for the club over one and a half year

He is a versatile midfield player who can play at Left, Right and Center but usually plays at Left-Midfield. He is also a 23-Year-Old.

Harry McKirdy

Harry McKirdy has come through the ranks of Stoke City and joined Aston Villa academy aged 14 and been part of the club since.

The 22-Year-Old has made 39 appearances in League Two over three years with Stevenage, Crewe Alexandra, and Newport County.

He usually plays as a center forward but was unable to establish himself at any of the previous three loan teams.

Jonathan Mellish

Jonathan Mellish is a two time English C capped Center Back who had a breakthrough season in Last year for Gateshead FC.

He is 21 years old and has been with National League Club Gateshead for the past three years.

In the 2018-19 season, he played almost 90 minutes in every single league game for Gateshead and is being touted as the next big thing to come out of Non-League.

Christie Elliott

Christie Elliott is a very versatile player who can play almost every out field position but usually sees himself as a Right Back.

He has spent the past eight years with Partick Thistle where he played in all the top three tiers of Scottish football(Premiership, Championship and League One).

He also spent part of the 2012-13 season with Albion Rovers in the second division. The 28-Year-Old will undoubtedly help youngsters in current Carlisle squad

Byron Webster

Byron Webster, who was a regular Center back at Millwall has fallen out of favor with Neil Harris at The Den and spent the second half of last season at with Scunthorpe United after joining them on a short term deal.

He played the last 7 games for Scunthorpe United in the 2018-19 season but was unable to save them from Relegation to League One and was subsequently released by the League One Club.

The-32-Year 6 Foot 3.6-inch center back is known for his indirect set Piece goals, long balls from the back. He will undoubtedly bring his experience of playing over 150 games in League One and 78 games in the championship to Carlisle United’s defense.

Nathaniel Knight-Percival

Nathaniel Knight-Percival is a 32-Year-Old defender who mostly plays as Center back but also can play as Full Back.

He has made over 325 appearances in his professional career with 135 of those coming from his time at Bradford City in League One over the last 3 years.

The 5’11” player is a decent passer of the ball and can play from the back if needed, He has a good jumping reach, strength and uses those two to win most of the ariel duels.

He made 35 appearances for Bradford last season and missed 7 games due to Yellow card suspension.

He was part of the Shrewsbury Town team that won promotion from League Two during the 2014–15 season.

Away Journey

If a Carlisle United fan wants to attend every single away match this season then they have to travel 5080 miles which means on average they have to travel 220.9 miles per game.

The longest trip they have to take would be to Plymouth which is 389 miles away.
