Luton Town 2019-20 Fan Preview

We have reached out to fans from all 24 championship teams and asked them to write a preview about their club for the 2019-20 Championship campaign.

How long have you been following The Hatters?

I have been following The Hatters for 16 years and have been a Season Ticket Holder for 11 years.

What are your thoughts on last season?

A truly astonishing season that surpassed even my most optimistic expectations, at the start of the season, I would have been happy with us consolidating ourselves in the top half of league one and maybe a playoff push.

Opening up the season with the hardest possible set of fixtures was tough, our performances were good, but we didn’t get the results to match. Once we started to get a foothold in the division, we turned good performances into results.

In October after suffering a defeat to Barnsley, we started our remarkable 28 games unbeaten run.

Jones leaving to join Stoke in January was a shock and a surprise also the manner of how he handled it was very disappointing. There was a worry that the season would fall apart.

Club legend Mick Harford stepped into the breach, Mick, along with the players and staff, performed magnificently well to keep the unbeaten run going and get us into 1st position and promotion.

Some of the performances and football played last season was magnificent and will live long in the memory of fans for years to come.

The most important result was off the field after finally getting planning permission for Power Court and Newlands Park.

Allowing us to build a new stadium after 70 years of trying, the new stadium will help us to continue to grow and compete at this level and hopefully beyond.

Champions, unbeaten at home, 28 games unbeaten and Power court and Newlands Park finally approved it was a glorious season that will go down as my favorite season following Luton.

What are your expectations going into this season?

After back to back promotions and with a new manager at the helm, along with us having one of the lowest budgets in the championship, staying up has to be the priority.

Providing we can use the momentum created over the last two years, along with keeping our fantastic home form going we could hopefully finish mid-table.

Which Home Fixture excites you the most and why?

All of them after a long 12 seasons away it’s exciting to finally be back in the championship with big games and clubs every week.

Which Away Trip excites you the most this season and why?

Fulham – Craven Cottage, London games are always some of my favorite games of the season. I haven’t done Craven Cottage before so looking forward to that.

Who is your star player?

Andrew Shinnie is a Rolls-Royce of a footballer the chief player maker in our team his vision creative and range of passing will be vital in our first season back. Moving him from CAM into a CM last season was an inspired move as it allows him to get more heavily involved in building up our attacking play.

Which new signing excites you the most?

We have just broken our club transfer record to sign the Croatian international Sluga. We needed an upgrade in the GK department, and hopefully, he can deliver this.

Tell us about the players who departed your club this summer?

Jack Stacey RB and James Justin RB/LB have signed for Bournemouth and Leicester respectively they will be a massive loss. Having used a diamond formation successfully over the last few years, our FBs had an enormous responsibility to provide attacking width as well as defensive solidarity.

Jack and James have been massive players for us over the last two seasons chipping in with goals and assists as well as racking up the clean sheets. They are young and full of potential if they keep developing, they should take the premiership by storm.

Do you have any tips for away fans or first-time visitors of Kenilworth Road?

Simply enjoy the trip! Kenilworth Road is Unique in today’s game. A traditional old atmospheric stadium with tons of history and character.
