2019-20 Crawley Town League Two Preview – 72 in 72

Crawley Town might not be the biggest in terms of gates or Finances but they are one of the clubs with big ambitions. If reports are to be believed their owner Ziya Eren pumped in close to £2 million to keep operations running.

To understand the financial situation of the club, here are attaching the details of the clubs income statements for 2016-17 and 2017-18 Seasons.

From the above statements you can see that they had a turnover of close to  £3 million pounds. Compare that to Salford who was paying two players  £212000 per year each in Non-League and whatever Richie Towell is earning this season.

There is no doubt in saying that an average attendance of close 2,000 will not be enough to compete financially in this division. They will need the backing of their owner and a good cup run to make them financially sustainable.

But good finances don’t mean good results on the field. After all, the game is going to be played on the field and not on paper. Last year many of their fans were expecting them to push for playoffs.

Instead, they ended up in a relegation battle reaching 21st at one stage with just 5 games to go but went on to win 3 and draw one over the final 5 games.

This season too fans will be optimistic. So I think there is a lot of work to be done in the off-season.

Crawley Town Manager

Gabriele Cioffi took over as the manager in September after the departure of Harry Kewell to Notts County which meant he inherited a squad put together by another man.

As a player, Cioffi spent most of his career in lower divisions of Italian football. He has also made 18 appearances in Seria A over his career.

After Retirement as player, he worked as manager of Italian lower division team US Gavorrano and then worked as an Assistant manager at Carpi FC, UAE Gulf League club AlJazira, Birmingham City under managers like Daniele Tacchini, Henk ten Cate, Gianfranco Zola respectively.

After leaving Birmingham City, he has joined as the manager at Crawley Town. Now that he has managed a whole season fans can only hope he has learned ins and outs of the football club and it is only upwards for them under him.

Crawley Town New Signings

Crawley has retained all the important players and decided to release only Bondz N’Gala and Yusuf Mersin. That means they added to the squad they have got. As any fan in football will say stability at League Two level is always good.

But they will miss Joe Maguire, Matty Willock, and Luke Gambin who were on loan at the club last season.

They have signed the following players till now this season

Nathan Ferguson

Nathan Ferguson is a 23-year-old midfielder and not to be confused with18-Year-Old West Brom and England U-19 Center back with the same name.

Nathan Joined The Reds from non-league Dulwich Hamlet for whom he made 11 goals in 80 appearances.

Before Dulwich, he spent time with Bromley, Southport, Dartford, Port Vale, and Burton Albion and was a bit of a journeyman.

If he makes an appearance for Crawley Town that would be his first appearance in Football League.

Beryly Lubala

Beryly Lubala is a product of the Birmingham youth academy and has been at the club since 2014.

He can Play as Attacking Midfielder and Striker and made 3 substitute appearances for Birmingham last season in the championship as well as a full 90 minutes in a loss against Reading in EFL Cup.

The 21-Year-Old is considered one of the prospects for the future by people at Birmingham Academy, this prompted them to add a sell on clause in his contract.

Ashley Nadesan

Ashley Nadesan Usually plays as a striker and has proven that he can score at League two Level. He is Redhill born player and played for Local Club Horley Town before his big move to Fleetwood in 2016.

While playing for Horley Town he has proven that he is unstoppable at Combined Counties League level. According to sources he had offers from other clubs but wanted to join Crawley Town because he wanted to move close to his family.

While at Fleetwood he made 24 appearances in League one and 43 appearances while at a loan with Carlisle United in League Two.

In the first half of last season alone he scored 8 times and created 6 more goals for Carlisle United in League Two.

If he can continue his form from last season with Red Devils then he will undoubtedly be a name that fans will remember.

Mason Bloomfield

Mason Bloomfield is a striker who is currently on loan from Norwich City. He was signed by The Canaries at the start of the 2018 season because of his performance with National League side Dagenham & Redbridge.

After Joining Norwich city he has gone on loan to Scottish side Hamilton Academical in first half of the season and missed the second half due to breaking his arm in two places.

Crawley Town Away journey

Crawley Town fans have to travel 4230 miles if they want to attend all away matches which means an average of 183.9 miles.

The longest trip for them will be Carlisle United match for which they have to make a 347-mile trip.
