Cheltenham Town 2019-20 League Two Preview

Cheltenham Town will play their fourth consecutive season in League Two. They had a pretty great record at home in the 2018-19 season but their away form was one that fans hope will improve.

Cheltenham like many clubs in league two has a problem with retaining the services of their players. Either it may be due to non-retention or players showing interest in moving on.

But they seem to have tried to minimalize that by only releasing Matt Bower, Rakish Bingham, and Tyrone Barnett.

Players like Nigel Atangana, Jordon Forster, and Manny Duku have left them even after being offered new deals. That means they were able to retain the services of most of the key players from last season.

That means their manager Michael Duff will now be able to work with a team that has been together for at least one season, add new faces and Youth team players to the current squad.

Manager

Michael Duff, the current manager had an illustrious playing career achieving promotion three times from Championship with Burnley.

He has also helped Cheltenham Town achieve Football League status twice and promotion from the past third division of football league once.

He was also capped 24 times by the Northern Ireland Football Team and was considered as a Team leader while playing at Burnley.

After Retirement, he has joined the Burnley academy as Reserve team manager and staid there for two years but there is no doubt in saying targets for reserve managers are different than Head coaches as results matter more for Head Coaches.

But last season would have been a good experience for him as he seemed to try a lot of things like formation changes and gave a lot of players chances, especially in away games.

That means hopefully he would have learned from his mistakes and fans would hope that his away record improves.

New Signings

The Robins don’t seem to be going for what is available approach or not at least yet and are following what would be good for us approach in the transfer market.

Tahvon Campbell

A 22-Year-Old center forward who came through the ranks of West Bromwich Albion has already made more than 100 appearances at the senior level.

He will undoubtedly give tough fight for Forward positions. He has spent first half of last season at Forest Green Rovers and second half at League One club Gillingham.

Charlie Raglan

Charlie Raglan has played the second half of the last season at Cheltenham Town. After his release from Oxford United, The Robins didn’t waste any time in making his move permanent.

Reuben Reid

Reuben Reid is an established League Two striker who has scored 99 goals in 314 appearances at this level and 14 goals in 76 appearances in League One, He has also made 24 appearances at Championship Level.

Which means he has scored 127 goals over his 471 game career which will undoubtedly help The Robins.

The 30-Year-old English center forward was a regular starter for Forest green at the start of the 2018-19 season but as the season went on his appearances started Going down.

He was a bit of a journeyman playing for West Bromwich Albion, Oldham Athletic, Yeovil Town, Exeter City, Exeter City, Forest Green, Kidderminster Harriers, Rochdale, Torquay United Wycombe Wanderers, Peterborough United, and Walsall but spent most of his career at Plymouth Argyle where he spent 3 and a Half season.

His career as a player was always plagued by injuries. he had a problem with recurring ankle and shin injuries. He was a free agent last season as he was suffering from a knee injury and no club wanted an injured player on their books.

Daniel Bowry

Daniel Bowry is a 21-Year-Old Antigua and Barbuda international defender who plays at Center back and in both fullback positions.

He is a 5’6” player who is known for his pace and is one of the brightest prospects to come out of Charlton Athletic Academy.

He is the son of former Crystal Palace and Millwall midfielder Bobby Bowry.

He has never made a single appearance in Football league but had Non-League experience with Kingstonian, and Hampton & Richmond Borough.
