Coventry City and Ipswich Town fined for the player brawl

Coventry City has been fined £2,700 while Ipswich was fined £3,750. The two clubs went head to head, three times in the past few weeks.

The incident took place at St. Andrew’s in their League One fixture that was played between the two FA Cup second round ties and took place on Saturday, 7 December.

An off-the-ball incident involving The Sky Blues Sam McCallum and Ipswich’s Gwion Edwards sparked an altercation in the 57th minute of the League One game.

Both clubs admitted to the charge of breaching the FA’s rule E20 which states

Each Affiliated Association, Competition, and Club shall be responsible for ensuring:

(a) that its directors, players, officials, employees, servants, representatives, spectators, and all persons purporting to be its supporters or followers, conduct themselves in an orderly fashion and refrain from any one or combination of the following: improper, violent, threatening, abusive, indecent, insulting or provocative words or behavior, (including, without limitation, where any such conduct, words or behavior includes a reference, whether express or implied, to any one or more of ethnic origin, color, race, nationality, religion or belief, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation or disability) whilst attending at or taking part in a Match in which it is involved, whether on its own ground or elsewhere; and 

(b) that no spectators or unauthorized persons are permitted to encroach onto the pitch area, save for reasons of crowd safety, or to throw missiles, bottles or other potentially harmful or dangerous objects at or on to the pitch.

The Sky Blues accepted the standard penalty but submitted a late response to the charge – which was subsequently permitted by an independent regulatory commission

Tractor Boys, however, requested a paper hearing according to FA.
