Garry Monk appointed as new Sheffield Wednesday manager

Sheffield Wednesday didn’t have a great start to the season following 3 Wins and 3 losses from the first six games.

Their caretaker manager Lee Bullen had 4 wins from the seven-game but it seems like the club has gone for a manager who is both experienced and young at the same time.

The 40-Year-Old retired Center Back made 15 appearances for the owls as a player in the 2002-03 season whilst on loan from Southampton.

He was expected to make a permanent switch to the club that season but it failed to materialize because of Wednesday’s relegation to Division Two.

Monk’s appointment means he will have managed five current second-tier sides in the past five years.

His former clubs include Swansea City, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, and his last club Birmingham City.

His first match in charge will on Sunday, 15 September against newly relegated Premier League side Huddersfield Town at Kirklees Stadium.

The Club currently sits at 11th position in the Championship and has reached the third round of the EFL Cup.

This will be his first job since he was sacked by Birmingham in June after 15 months in charge.

He had a record of 19 wins, 20 draws from 59 games in charge at Birmingham City which led to them finishing 17th last season with 52 points.

Gary Monk has a record of 84 wins, 53 draws from 215 games in charge of the football club. He is a UEFA Pro Licence holder and prefers to play 4-4-2.
