Swindon Town 2019-20 League Two

Many fans expected Swindon Town to build on their 2017-18 campaign’s 9th position and push for playoffs at the start of last season but a poor start to the campaign under Phil Brown and winless April meant they had to settle for 13th in a very competitive table.

At the start of April, they were sitting in 10th position with 7 games to go but only managed 4 draws and a win in the final game.

In hindsight, if they managed to get eight more points, they could have been in playoff spots.

At the start of this season, there is no doubt in saying that Playoffs will be a realistic target and Richie Wellens and his men.

They have released 10 players this summer. The list includes

To add to list Matthew Taylor(37) retired from football and Kyle Knoyle joined League One rivals Cambridge United after rejecting The Robins contract offer. 

In total 12 players left the club in summer but they managed to retain the services of many of the important players from last season.

Swindon Town Manager

Richie Wellens is the current manager of Swindon Town and joined the Robbins role after the departure of Phil Brown.

It is Richie Wellens’ second managerial role after his 43 game spell with Oldham Athletic. His record with Swindon Town is 11 wins and 10 draws from 30 games in charge.

He is known for his attacking brand of football and uses 4-4-2 double 6 and 4-3-3 formations frequently.

He was an established Championship and League One player before retirement and has an experience of playing 566 games under his belt.

He is a Mancunian United fan and says Sir Alexander Chapman Ferguson is the biggest influence of his playing style.

Swindon Town 2019-20 New Signings

Mathieu Baudry

Mathieu Baudry is a 31-Year-Old french defender who predominantly plays as a center back but can also play at right-back and defensive midfield positions if needed.

Baudry started his professional career at Troyes and is a product of the Le Havre academy. He moved to England after he joined Bournemouth in 2011.

After leaving Bournemouth he was on books at Leyton Orient, Doncaster Rovers, and Milton Keynes Dons.

He made a total of 266 appearances in professional football of those 126 appearances came from League One, 81 came from League Two.

The 6’2” is known for his Ariel presence, Marking ability, and his strength.

He featured in only 5 games last season for MK Dons due to injuries and was subsequently released by them.

Zeki Fryers

Zeki Fryers is a product of Manchester United academy and made 2 appearances for the senior team in reds jersey. He is currently 26 and is one of the highly-rated defenders in League Two.

Fryers also featured in the colors of Standard Liège, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Rotherham United, Ipswich Town, and Barnsley.

He usually plays as Left Back but also can play as center back, at 6 feet tall his ariel ability will be useful when the games come to the closing stage and lead needs to be protected.

Last season he was on the books of Barnsley but managed to make only 5 appearances in League One as his Knee injuries kept him out of the action for most of the season.

When he is fit Zeki has an excellent pace, Ariel presence and can put a decent cross in the box.

Rob Hunt

Rob Hunt is a 5’7” full-back, who is a product of Brighton & Hove Albion academy. He made 98 appearances in Professional football including 1 appearance in the championship.

Rob is currently 24 years old and can play on both sides as a full-back but predominantly features on the right.

He a very hard worker and covers a lot of pitch during matches, he is also good at indirect free kicks and corners.

Last season he was on the books of Oldham Athletic and made 43 appearances for Latics but decided to terminate his contract at the end of the season.

Tyler Reid

Tyler Reid is a 21-year-old Right back who is a product of Manchester United, Swansea City, Arsenal youth academies.

Only senior football experience he has is 7 appearances he made with Newport County in the 2017-18 season and one senior EFL Cup appearance last season with Swansea.

Last season he was on the books of Swansea and spent most of his time with U-23’s making 18 appearances with them.

He is a pacy, strong full-back who makes it really hard for winger or midfielders to go past him. He also has a good long throw and can turn trow ins into set-pieces.

Adam May

Adam May is one of the highly-rated prospects to come out of the Portsmouth academy. He is a central midfield player who can also play as attacking midfielder and defensive midfielder.

He has been on loans to Sutton United, Gosport Borough, Aldershot Town, Swindon Town and accumulated 66 professional appearances.

He is a 6-foot tall midfielder who uses Strength and Ariel ability to dominate the midfield. His work rate for most teams he played was second to none.

Jerry Yates

Jerry Yates is a product of Rotherham United academy and played in colors of Harrogate Railway Athletic, Harrogate Town, Carlisle United on loan.

He is a 22-Year-Old striker who can also play on both wings. The 5’8” player is known for his pace and work rate.

He spent the first half of last season on loan at Carlisle United and scored 6 for them in 23 league appearances.

This performance led to Rotherham United calling him back for the second half of the season and he made 7 appearances for them in the championship.

Daniel Ballard

Daniel Ballard is a highly rated Northern Ireland International and Arsenal academy product who is still 19 and stands at 6’1”.

He has become a U23 regular last season, starting 13 Premier League 2 games for Freddie Ljungberg’s side.

He has also made 6 appearances for Norther Irish U-21 and U-19 squads.

Daniel Ballard is known for his ability to play from the back, is a great reader of the game and has gained a lot of pundits for his decision making in tough situations.

Swindon Town 2019-20 Away Journey

Total Away miles Stevenage fans have to travel this season is 3088 which means they have to travel an average of 134.3 miles per game.

The Longest away game for them this season will be Carlisle United. For that game alone they have to cover 270 miles.

Swindon Town 2019-20 Odds

Many bookmakers are predicting a mid-table finish for Swindon Town this season but there is no reason why they can’t achieve a playoff spot.
