Wycombe Wanderers are a team with one of the lowest budget in League One this season, but rumors are circulating that their new minority owners Rob Couhig and Mark Palmer are about to infuse significant capital into the club which is always a positive sign for finances.
Last season’s League One survival was one of the significant accomplishments in the Wycombe Wanderers’ recent history, and that also marked the completion of 5-Year Plan set by the clubs owners Wycombe Wanderers Trust.
The 5-Year plan had three key elements – “survival, security, and success.” The survival and security part was related to bringing financial security and eliminating the possibility for administration.
The success part was related to getting to League One and staying in the League which has been accomplished by Gareth Ainsworth and his men.
Last season Gareth Ainsworth’s men made a few fans dream as they reached as high as 9th position and stayed there for six matchdays.
There will be no doubt in saying – staying away from relegation will be the most crucial task this season while pushing for promotion with at least mid-table finish will be a realistic target.
Wycombe Wanderers have released seven players in the summer of 2019-20, and they are as follows.
Gareth Ainsworth is the current manager of Wycombe Wanderers. He has been their manager since the sacking of Gary Waddock on 24 September 2012.
Initially, he got appointed as a caretaker, and on 8 November he was appointed as permanent manager while still being a player.
He continued as a player-manager till 27 April 2013 and then became the manager of the club since then.
During his playing days, he was on the books of Preston North End, Cambridge United, Lincoln City, Wimbledon, Cardiff City, Queens Park Rangers, and Wycombe Wanderers.
He has made 550+ professional appearances including ten Premier League, 112 championship appearances, 68 League Two, 46 League One appearances.
As the manager, he has played a significant role in Wycombe Wanderers’ 5-Year Plan. He usually uses 4-3-3 formation switching between 2 holding midfielder and one holding midfield player but also can switch to 4-4-2 if the game demands.
Wycombe Wanderers is not his first job according to the popular belief. He managed QPR in Player-Coach capacity for 11 games on two different occasions.
He also served managers like Jim Magilton, Paul Hart, Mick Harford, and Steve Gallen on player-assistant coach capacity while still at QPR.
Ainsworth has a record of 146 wins, 91 draws from 364 games in charge of the Wycombe Wanderers, he won League Managers Association (League Two), manager of the year for the 2014-15 season.
The Chairboys are known for their utilization of the loan market as bringing in players permanently will require far more financial resources.
They usually do their business late in the transfer window and give youngsters are trialists a chance before bringing in loan players. They have made following signings so far this season.
Alex Pattison is a 21-year-old midfield player who is known for playing at Central Midfield and Attacking midfield positions.
He is a 5’8” Englishmen who is a product of Middlesbrough Academy. Wycombe Wanderers will be his second permanent club after his 15 years as a Middlesbrough player.
Pattison spent time on loan at York City and Yeovil Town while still being a Middlesbrough player and gained experience of playing 50 games at the professional level.
Last season he was on loan at Yeovil Town, he started all 19 games after joining on loan but missed December and January fixtures due to a back injury and also missed four games after recovery in January as back problems continued in the remainder of the season.
He made 34 appearances for green and whites(Yeovil Town) last season but failed to stop them from getting relegated to National League even after providing the team four assists.
Pattison is a Box-to-Box midfielder who covers a lot of ground during the match. He is also praised for his reading of the game but is known to be suffering from back issues.
Total Away miles Wycombe Wanderers fans have to travel this season is 3168, which means they have to travel an average of 137.7 miles per game. They are the team to have the lowest away journey in League One this season.
The Longest away trip for them this season will be Sunderland away as they have to make a 275-mile trip to reach Stadium of Light.
